File Transfers between geographically distant points usually is one of the primary concerns of the company that has branches that span around the world. It is well known that wide-area massive data transfer has always been plagued by poor performance due to a variety of reasons. Some of the reasons include improper configuration of the sender and receiver hosts, software design issues, firewalls and possibly slow network connections. This project neither aims to modify the implementation of the existing file transfer applications nor create a new, sophisticated file transfer application. The target is to develop an algorithm and wrap the algorithm around the existing file transfer application to reduce the overall file transmission time of large files. The goal is to arrive at significant benefits in return for a very minimal effort. The Wrapper Algorithm is targeted to facilitate various types of files (data file, image file, database, etc.), file structure (files in a hierarchy system) between geographically distributed peers.
